The process discussed only include those that can be done by conscious reasoning. So, eg, heartbeat regulation is excluded. Some processes can be done to varying degrees in subconscious modes (eg, intuition can do optimisation).

Some processes may be irrelevant to the problem being considered so can be bypassed.

systems-thinking and optimisation (and probably ALL processes) can be conducted qualitatively (albeit with risk or error due to complexity). For normal people, this is appropriate.
